JUTC and disabled commuters
THE EDITOR, Sir:
As a member of the disabled community who regularly commutes via public transportation, I strongly believe that the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) should make special considerations for disabled persons, regarding the low seating capacity.
In addition to ensuring that adequate amount of seating is reserved, the management of JUTC should consider training their staff members on how to treat persons with disabilities with a humanitarian heart, not dehumanising them, as is the habit of some.
I strongly believe that JUTC must be proactive in seeking additional suggestions and feedback from members of the disabled community, and then develop mitigation measures accordingly. The company will only stand to gain some kudos with the public.
