Well worth the wait

WESTERN BUREAU:
Maxine Miller and Tyrese Burkett met four years ago in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland. However, as Miller admitted to Flair, she never gave him the time of day. "But he was very persistent, and he kept calling, until finally I agreed to one date."
Reminiscing, Miller said when they met she was working on a project for Claro. "Tyrese tried to get my attention at the time, but I ignored him for the most part. Even then, he was very polite and charming."
She was also involved with someone back then as well. However, "Tyrese kept calling to say hi and just to chit chat over the years. Back then, we never discussed our personal circumstances. A year and a half ago, he realised I was single, but my defences were way up."
She said she was on a path of healing from a terrible break-up and was not looking for a relationship, even though Burkett was very nice. "He was always calm, but just steadfast with his persistence. That's why he says he jumped over my walls."
Of course, the construction contractor, who specialises in interior and exterior finishing, only needed one date to complete this job. Burkett showed how worthy he was for the task, and Miller tags the rest as history.
Miller calls it history ... the bridge that connects the past with the present, but she also uses other words to describe the man she will spend the rest of her life with. "He is very charming, he adores me and is great to be around."
Recently, Miller, who is the chief executive officer of Black Ink Marketing and Event Solutions, and Burkett, managing director of Final Touch Contractor, exchanged vows with a sand ceremony in a gazebo on the lawns of the Sunset Beach Resort and Spa in Montego Bay.
With the ocean as the backdrop, Moet and Chandon whetted the appetite, the Sunset team created magic with the decor, entertainment and food.
Officiated by pastor Franz Fletcher of Church on the Rock, the ceremony was witnessed by an intimate group of family, close friends and well-wishers.
It was to this small group that Burkett said in his response: "I have found my rib," he stated, symbolic of the story of Adam and Eve, when God took a rib from Adam and created Eve.
Describing their outdoors ceremony, Miller said it was such a lovely day, "The rain held up just for our wedding."
