WESTERN BUREAU:
Rohan Williams, a garage owner in Montego Bay, will be sentenced on January 31 for having a fake driver's licence.
The decision was made by Resident Magistrate Sandra Wong-Small when Williams appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Williams pleaded guilty to having no driver's licence and no insurance, and to uttering forged documents.
"Why is it that you don't have a proper driver's licence?" RM Wong-Small asked the defendant when he appeared on Tuesday.
"I didn't know it (his licence) was fraudulent," Williams answered.
He then explained that he had gone twice to the examination depot, and on one of those visits, a man outside the depot sent him to talk to an individual at the tax office about getting a licence.
"That's not good enough!" RM Wong-Small fired back.
The judge ordered fingerprinting and a social enquiry report to be made of the defendant.
Reports are that on November 28, Williams was driving a red pickup truck on Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay, when he was stopped by police for a routine spot check.
Upon receiving Williams' driver's licence, the officer observed discrepancies with the defendant's date of birth. Williams was then arrested and charged.
