General Secretary Dalton Wint says the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) will use The Ticket Fairy, an electronic ticketing system, for its FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the United States of America at the National Stadium on November 16.

Wint told The Gleaner that the Ministry of Health and Wellness will be working with this system, which he says will be operational by next week, to ensure that only fully vaccinated persons will be allowed to enter the National Stadium.

“The first thing that you have to do is to make the application and then you will receive a verification number, and it will tell you if you are qualified by virtue of uploading the information that is required of you,” Wint said. “We want to assure the public that this system is a very robust system and I don’t think it is a system that will be easily breached.”

APPROVAL GRANTED

The Government granted approval to the JFF on Thursday for a limited number of fully vaccinated spectators for the game.

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie said that approximately 5,000 spectators will be allowed to attend.

Wint says that he foresees no issues using the software, as it has already shown effectiveness in use around the world.

“This is something that has worked in other places and I really think it will work in Jamaica, and what we are asking persons is that we want to get back to our normal life and the only way we can achieve that is if the country is fully vaccinated,” he said. “There are certain privileges that are allowed to vaccinated persons and so everyone should make the decision to get themselves vaccinated, to enjoy what was normalcy before but is now a benefit.”

But Wint cautioned that the JFF will be vigilant in the approach to this system because it wants to ensure complete spectator safety entering the venue.

“We definitely will be taking a zero tolerance approach with this and only fully vaccinated persons will be allowed inside the National Stadium, because we have a duty to make sure that everyone attending this game can feel safe,” he said.
