Jamaica still awaits the ‘travel pal app’
THE EDITOR, Madam:
This is another case in point that gives credence to the argument that in Jamaica, you don’t applaud announcements, especially those made by politicians. You await implementation before commendation.
It’s now February, and the promised ‘travel pal app’, which was announced with great enthusiasm and certainty, by transport minister Mr Robert Montague in December 2019, is yet to become a reality. Implementation date should have been January 2020.
Some may argue that it is early days yet, but what’s the difference in principle between this date and an election date?
No surprises here, as this seems to be the norm as it relates to announcements and implementation of projects.
This travel ‘pal app’ is a security mechanism with many different features, geared at making commuters feel safer when using the public transportation system. Among other things, it’s supposed to enable commuters to use their mobile devices to scan the registration plates of public passenger vehicles to verify if they are duly licensed.
