Holness looks unbeatable for next election

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I'm on record saying that there is a trust factor issue with me and Prime Minister Andrew Holness. With that said, he will be difficult to beat at the polls.

Why? I'm a truth-teller, and frankly, he has done a number of things that will yield tremendous benefits to Jamaica.

The National Identification System, if used properly, honestly, and comprehensively, is transformative. His Economic Growth Council has great potential.

His pronouncements regarding renewable energy and the fact that Jamaica can produce perhaps 50 per cent of its energy needs through renewable energy shows that his heart is in the right place. We need to see more action on it, however.

His push for greater bilateral cooperation between Israel and Jamaica in areas of security, agriculture, water-resource management, and diaspora bonds is brilliant.

His abstention from the UN vote on Jerusalem was the right thing to do.

The zones of special operations, Jamaica Eye and the states of emergency are yielding results. He took too long, but better late than never. His insistence on greater public/private partnerships is important.

I would like to see greater actualisation of his plans, but I understand the limitations of a government with no money.

The results are evident. Business confidence in Jamaica is way up, the tourism sector is growing, despite the bad publicity, the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce is happy, and crime seems to be on a downward trend.

For those reasons, he probably should be re-elected. Sorry, PNP people, you know I love you, but truth is truth.
