Portia to receive JPS monthly report
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is to provide the leader of the opposition, Portia Simpson Miller with a monthly report detailing the price at which fuel is purchased from Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (Petrojam).
JPS is also to outline in its report to Mrs. Simpson Miller the consumer consumption pattern for each month.
Yesterday, Mrs. Simpson Miller met with the Chief Executive Officer at JPS Damion Obligio to discuss increases in electricity bills for customers.
Many customers have been protesting against the huge increases in their bills.
The light and power company has also agreed to meet with several groups in Portmore and St. Catherine, who have also raised concerns regarding their bills.
JPS has also agreed to conduct a review of their billing statement with a view to making it more customer-friendly and easier to understand.
JPS has already indicated that it would be crediting customers, who were billed outside of their regular cycle.
The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is to receive for approval a sample calculation indicating how customers will be credited.
The energy minister Clive Mullings has also advised JPS to consider replacing its current meters with SMART and or electronic meters.
