A United States diplomat said the quantity of drugs being transported through Venezuela has increased significantly in the last few years.
US ambassador to Colombia, William Brownfield said the quantity of drugs has been increased from an average of 20 to 30 tonnes to nearly 300 tonnes.
Mr. Brownfield said the problem could only be controlled through greater bilateral and regional co-operation.
The United States has carried out very limited anti-drug operations with Venezuela, since the government of President Chavez accused American narcotics officers of being spies in 2006.
