There are indications that calm is slowly returning to the Glendevon community in St James, following a shooting incident this morning in which gunmen, disguised as protesters, killed two people, including a child, and injured two others.

Reports reaching the Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre are that sections of the Sun Valley main road are still blocked.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) is reporting that a strong police/military presence has remained in the community.

The police are helping to clear the roadblocks and have reportedly detained 10 men in connection with this morning’s shooting.

The Glendevon community was thrown into chaos after gunmen manning a roadblock fired on a car which attempted to get through.

The car was being driven by a father taking his two kids to school.

Five year old Cristina Salmon was shot in the head and died at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

Her sister and father were admitted in critical condition.

Shortly after, a delivery truck driver stopped his car to clear another roadblock when he was shot by gunmen hiding nearby.

He died on the spot.

The roadblocks were set up by residents protesting the killing of two alleged gunmen by the police in the area yesterday.
