Ten grade ones was part of Ardenne student's plan

"FROM BEFORE I started fourth form, I knew that I wanted 10 grade ones. I knew the subjects I wanted to do, and I knew how much work I had to put in."

That is how one of Ardenne High School's top-performing boys, Jovante Anderson, said he approached his recent exams.

Anderson said by the time he was through with third form, he had crafted his master plan, and was all set to manage his time to achieve this.

A future thespian and medical doctor, he is quick to point out that his feat in earning 10 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) subjects at grade one, nine with straight 'A' profiles, was not easy.

"I had to do a lot of studying, a lot of stress management and a lot of time management," he told The Gleaner.

Jovante said he loves to read and write short stories, and has partially completed what could easily be his debut novel. It is perhaps for this reason Anderson managed to get the second-highest grade in English language across the island.

Academic success is not new for him. In 2008, Jovante copped one of the top four government scholarships for his performance in the Grade Six Achievement Test at Jessie Ripoll Primary School.

"I like to do well, and I am a little bit of a perfectionist, I like to get good grades," Jovante said with a chuckle.

He added that a part of his success was also surrounding himself with like-minded friends who are willing to work hard and achieve their personal goals.

Jovante's recommendation to students who will be sitting CSEC exams in the future is to "don't leave a class until you understand what the teacher just taught, and don't take anything for granted, and also be proactive".
