 PASSLEY GARDENS, Portland:

STUDENTS AT the College of Agriculture Science and Education (CASE) in Portland were on Tuesday urged to become multi-skilled if they are to survive in the world of work.

Speaking with students who are on the verge of entering the local job market, during the college's job fair, executive director of the Jamaican Foundation for Lifelong Learning, Dr Alison Cross, urged them to not solely rely on academic qualifications, but to also promote their talents in and around the workplace, so as to become indispensable.

seize opportunities

"Success depends on you," she said. "It is determined by how you take advantage of the opportunities which are presented to you. Once you are multi-skilled at the workplace, you will virtually cement your place of employment, so do not be bothered or overconfident about your A and B passes. Your employer will more than likely ask of you, what is it that you can do for us?"

"And with multi-talent and skill, you will become a valuable asset to that business or company," she continued.

Meanwhile, interim president of CASE, Dr Victor Watt, lauded the efforts of the students who, he said, remained committed and dedicated through the rigours of their courses and training.

Director of student affairs, Jasher Mais, advised students to remain positive, and to act professionally during their quest for employment and after they enter the world of work.
