draining the nation
Remember Mr Knight's revelation of corruption in The Gleaner last Saturday? These are the kinds of underground tunnels that have been draining the country's coffers.
How many more millions were placed in private accounts and were later gone? Are politicians that inept? Or are they just plain dumb?

no money from me!
St Ann's Bay Hospital surgeons did some fantastic work on me many years ago, and I thought this hospital needed donations and was just recently looking where to send it.
But since they have so much money and don't know what to do with it, I change my mind. Poor money management will not get my donation.

TOO MANY COOKS
As I had first thought, and then it was confirmed in the article, it is a matter of someone being aware of the funds but who treated it as if it was private ownership. A detailed audit should be done in order to determine the original source and amount. Was there any prior use of funds from the account? And if there was, for what purpose was it used?
You have too many chiefs for that little place, and everybody is doing his own thing. Too many cooks spoil the broth.

poor governance
This is really a shame. What type of leadership is this? Very poor governance. May God help us!

the truth hurts
As sad as it is to see the politicians complaining about the money in the account, it's heart-breaking to know that they are making a fuss over private donations. This money was not provided by the Government, so there should be no fuss over it. It cannot be claimed by any one person, and that's why it remained dormant.
It was for building and improvement projects at the hospital, which were never done because these projects are to be initiated by Government.
Whether then or now, Government always complains about not having the money to do stuff, yet borrows and puts us further in debt.
