Online feedback
Below is feedback from readers of www.jamaica-gleaner.com to yesterday's Sunday Gleaner lead story titled 'Sour sugar export'.
Let us hope this story is followed through to its end. If, in fact, the sugar failed the quality-control tests, who will be held accountable?
We have a way of dropping the bomb, the speeches unfold, and then we hear nothing further.
Over to you, Minister Tufton.

What happened to the quality-control personnel? They are either sleeping on the job, incompetent or not familiar with international standards.
I worked at Monymusk many, many years ago, and I know about quality control at every step of the process - from harvesting to the raw sugar output. I am assuming that the sugar in question is raw sugar, rather than refined sugar.
Heads must roll. Clean house and employ experienced technocrats, not partisan sympathisers.

If this is true, what a piece of slackness! Somebody must resign or be fired for this.
If penalties are applied, will Aubyn Hill exorbitant salary take a hit, or will the hapless taxpayer be made to bear the burden of the Government's sloppiness once again?

Bloggers, let's wait and see. Don't be quick to pass judgement. There are major players in the USDA that want to keep Jamaican sugar out of US markets.
Don't forget what happened with the Caribbean Basin Initiative. They are now trying to get a big cut into the European banana market, which would adversely affect the Caribbean banana industry.

This is so sloppy. Everything we Jamaicans do is so wrong. Somebody needs to go to jail for this. So much taxpayer money going down the drain.
If this is so, what are Mr Hill and Mr Tufton going to do about it? Send someone to prison, for God's sake. This slackness must stop.

We do not need this kind of publicity. Although America exports a lot of substandard things, it sets high standard for its imports. I hope this allegation is found not to be true, but the Government needs to bring its equipment up to standard. Stop cutting corners.
