  •  New Civic coming

The new Civic will be available to buyers in three- and five-door versions. A choice of diesel, petrol and hybrid engines will also be offered. A 200-horsepower Type R version will be also available.

  • Passat sets record

German-made Volkswagen Passat Bluemotion recently established a world record by travelling 1,527 miles on one tank of diesel fuel.

A team from the United Kingdom's Sunday Times set off from Kent, England with a full tank of diesel fuel containing 77 litres - drove to the south of France and back. The average speed for the journey was 45 miles per hour. The VW Passat 1.6L TDI used was the standard production model which features a lower standard ride height, stop-start technology, longer gearing and low-rolling resistance tyres.

  • Sonata goes turbo

Korean auto maker, Hyundai, has added a 2.0L twin-scroll turbo engine with direct injection to its 2011 Sonata.

The Sonata GDI four-cylinder engine will produce 274 horsepower at 6,000 revs per minute, and pushes 269 lb-ft of torque at 1750-4500 revs per minute.

Power to the ground will go through a six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The Sonata 2.0T four-cylinder has more power than all competitive mid-size V6 engines such as Camry, Accord, Altima and Passat.

  • Bridges to come

Patrick Wong, executive director of the National Works Agency, said his organisation has earmarked two bridges for construction in the Corporate Area.

Wong said the bridges are to be built over the Cassia Park and Queensborough fording and construction should commence within a month.

  • Rover drops plans

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) said it no longer plans to close one of its three auto plants in England after reaching an agreement with trade unions, the company said on Friday.

JLR, which Ford Motor Co sold to India's Tata Motors in 2008, said it would be significantly increasing the number of models in its range and creating thousands of jobs over the next decade.
