Dover drivers renew rivalry

At least two weeks before renewing their rivalry on the track, some of the country's top circuit racing drivers are involved in a friendly 'war of words'. The showdown is expected on Emancipation Day, August 2, at Dover Raceway in St Ann.
"I am tired of hearing the name David Summerbell and I am going to put a stop to it," said Doug 'Hollywood' Gore with a chuckle.
Summerbell has been one of Gore's main rivals over the last five years and come Emancipation Day he plans to use his Mitsubishi Evolution X and V race cars to counter the pace of Summerbell — Caribbean Motor Racing Champion."We have put in a new roll cage in the Evo X to correct the suspension problem so the car is now ready and much faster. As for the Evo V, we have put in a new engine and it should be faster than before," said Gore, who also disclosed that the Evo V will be driven by his sibling, Matthew.
While boasting on the readiness of his camp — which includes drivers such as Chris Campbell, Matthew Gore, Gary Williams and Dean Corrodus — Gore is predicting the upcoming meet will be dominated by the Montego Bay-based drivers.
In response to Gore's remarks, a smiling Summerbell said it is no different from what he has been hearing from other competitors for the last 15 years. "I am preparing to do my talking on the track," said Summerbell.
Anxious for action
Outside of the battle for supremacy between Gore and Summerbell, tension is mounting in the MP 1 and IP 33 Classes. Tedroy 'Teddy' Burton, Gary Barrett and Kyle Gregg are anxious for action and ready to fight down to the wire for the chequered flag. The improving Gregg won two races at the last meet while Burton established a new track record in the MP 1 Class.
Burton said his Superior Honda Parts-sponsored Civic — prepared by Xavia Murray — will surprise come race day. Meanwhile, Brian Foster, who is expected to compete with Burton, is hoping to upset the apple cart.
Hoping to improve
"I am hoping to improve on my last performance," said Foster.Peter 'Zoom Zoom' Rae and Peter 'Bull' Thompson in their Mazda RX 7s are two stalwarts who cannot be under estimated. Rae, who currently leads the Two-Wheel Drive Class of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), promised another good performance.
If Thompson gets everything corrected on race day, then the fans will be in for a treat as the veteran driver should be taking no prisoners. Not to be outdone in other classes are drivers such as Allen Chen and Guy Fraser.
