WESTERN BUREAU:
Several guests were on hand to witness the recent official opening of the GraceKennedy Financial Centre, Fairview Shopping Centre, Montego Bay, St James. The centre houses First Global Bank (FGB), First Global Financial Services (FGFS), Allied Insurance Brokers and Jamaica International Insurance Company (JIIC).
Guest speaker, Finance Minister Audley Shaw, said Jamaica had seen much success with its Debt Exchange programme. "The endgame in all of this is to reduce interest rates to single digit and I am calling on the banking sector to help the Government lead the way to reducing interest rates," Shaw said.
Don Wehby, GKG's chief operating officer, said the financial centre represents a commitment on the group's part to expand operations in western Jamaica, making it easier for persons to access its products and services.
And, Courtney Campbell, chief executive officer of GraceKennedy Group (GKG), said $120 million had been spent to fix up and equip the centre. "We don't see that as a cost, we see it as an investment, because we are in Montego Bay for the long haul," he told Outlook.
And, already residents of the Second City are giving the thumbs up to FGB and FGFS for excellence in customer service. These include businessman Anthony 'Tony Dillon' Lewin, who told Outlook he was so pleased with the service offered that he has since made First Global his only banker.
Staff from Top Shelf and Ciao Bella Catering Companies provided their customary excellent service and cabaret performers Sandra Coke, Nashalla Lindo and the Ralph Holding Combo Band entertained.
