Treasure Beach’s Jhanni Flemmings (second left) looks to outrun Tivoli Gardens FC’s Keno Simpson (right), Anthony Nelson (second right) and Nickalia Fuller during their rescheduled Jamaica Premier League football match at Edward Seaga Sports Complex on Wednesday. The game ended 0-0.

Tivoli Gardens coach Jerome Waite said yesterday’s 0-0 draw with Treasure Beach in the Jamaica Premier League at the Edward Seaga Complex is two points dropped and calls for more teamwork from his players in the final third.

Tivoli controlled the match for the most part and had more than enough openings to come away with the spoils; however, they failed to make their ascendancy count and Waite was left rueing the missed opportunity.

“You can’t get so many chances and don’t convert. We defeated ourselves today,” Waite stated.

“The connection in the final third could have been better. Overweighted passes and players choosing to kick for themselves when we needed more teamwork in the final third, and that is still eluding us.”

He added: “Every point is important. Today it should have been three, but we gave away two.”

Tivoli dominated the first half and had good chances to go ahead. Their clearest chance of the half came in the 25th minute, but Akeil Leachman could not keep his shot on target.

Minutes later, Mickel Graham broke down the right but failed to get his pass right, with Anthony Nelson waiting to tap home from six yards.

Then in the 33rd minute, two Tivoli players got their heads to Nickalia Fuller’s corner, but neither could keep the ball on target.

Treasure Beach almost went in front three minutes before the break, but goalkeeper Nathaniel Francis parried Jhanni Flemmings’ ferocious free kick into the path of Raheem Porter, who crashed his shot off the bar from six yards.

In the 57th minute, Fuller tested goalkeeper Romario Palma with a stinging effort from 35 yards that Palma had to push for a corner.

Moments later, Kavon Wilson just missed getting on the end of Leachman’s cross before Graham placed the follow-up effort wide of the mark.

Trevaun McKain also came close for the hosts after a slalom through the Treasure Beach midfield and defence, but his final shot was deflected for a corner.

They had an even better chance three minutes later when Tkiven Garnett found space on top of the box but put his shot wide.

Their last opportunity came with three minutes left from Fuller’s curling free kick that landed wide of the goal.

Treasure Beach coach Kemar Ricketts, who has taken five points from his last three, thought they also had chances to get the win, but insists the point was sufficient.

“First half, we did some really good things. Second half, we would have wanted some consistency; we didn’t get that, but we got one more point to add to what we already have,” he said.
