US-based Reggae Boy Corey Burke is taken away by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force outside the Ferdi Neita Park yesterday. Burke was detained following an altercation at the entrance to the venue which was hosting the Portmore United versus Racing United Jamaica Premier League match.

Portmore’s Tyrique Ximines second half strike denied second-placed Racing all three points in the Jamaica Premier League Portmore derby at Ferdi Neita Park on Sunday, with teams staying as they were (second and third) in the table, two points apart.

Nickyle Ellis put Racing in front just past the half hour, but Ximines found the equaliser with a vicious strike in the 64th minute. It was Racing’s seventh draw in their last eight matches.

Racing coach Anthony Patrick said it was ‘tough luck’ for his team to give up the goal for the equaliser.

“We played a disciplined game. Portmore didn’t create any clear-cut chances. It’s just unfortunate we conceded a soft goal like that. It’s just tough luck,” he commented.

Racing started the match well and eventually went ahead, when Ellis stole in at the near post and redirect a shot past Daniel Russell in goal.

Portmore had a couple good breaks early in the second half through Romeo Guthrie and Peter McGregor, but they failed to make them count.

Ximines levelled the game in the 64th minute, after cutting inside his marker and fired a low, dipping shot that Aaron Enill let squeezed by him inside the near post.

Despite both teams throwing everything forward for the winner, neither looked like getting a second and in the end a draw was a fair result.

Portmore assistant coach Ricardo Smith was left rueing the opportunity they missed to overtake their rivals and go second in the table.

“It’s a very good chance that we had (to overtake Racing), and it is not the first week. Week before, we also had another chance to pass them and we didn’t. We just have to keep on working,” he said.

Racing are second on 35 points and Portmore third with 33 points. Montego Bay lead the table with 42 points.

Meanwhile, about 30 minutes into the game, Jamaican international forward Corey Burke and two other compatriots were taken away by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), after an altercation at the entrance gate.

The US-based Burke plays professionally with Lexington SC in USL League One.
