Chapelton Maroons scored their first win in the Jamaica Premier League since September when they clipped Treasure Beach 1-0 yesterday.

The Maroons’ last win before yesterday was a thrilling 3-2 victory over Portmore United on September 7 last year. Since that time, they had gone winless for nine matches. This included six defeats and three drawn matches.

The hero yesterday was 21 year-old midfielder Damoi Whitfield, who scored the winner for the Maroons in the 63rd minute.

Maroons were deserved winners as they had 55 per cent of the possession, six shots with two on target to four and one on target for Treasure Beach.

Yesterday’s win lifted Chapelton out of the relegation zone to 15 points and ninth in the standings after 12 games.

Treasure Beach, who were severely impacted by October 28 Hurricane Melissa, only returned to action after the storm on December 21 when they scored a 2-0 win over Portmore United. They have since lost twice, both by 1-0 margins, and are now in 13th in the 14-team standings with 12 points from 11 games.

Racing United lead the standings with 27 points from 14 games, Montego Bay United are second with 26 from 14, while Portmore are third with 25, also from 14 games.

The competition continues on Sunday with five games: Racing vs Waterhouse; Treasure Beach vs Montego Bay; Dunbeholden vs Spanish Town Police; Chapelton vs Harbour View and Molynes vs Mount Pleasant.
