JAMAICAN TRIPLE jumper Jordan Scott says he is ready to step onto the world stage with confidence, as he aims to challenge for a medal at this month’s World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Scott, who has enjoyed an excellent season, enters the championships ranked third in the world with a personal-best mark of 17.52 metres. Andy Hernandez of Italy is the world leader with a mark of 17.80m.

“I am feeling pretty good. I had the Diamond League final recently and it was kind of a rough meet,” Scott said.

“We made some changes during the one-month break that I wasn’t all the way in on, but I am confident it will be beneficial in the long run. I’m just taking my time to dial them in so I can be ready to go for the 17th.”

The 28-year-old will be competing at the World Championships for the third time, having previously featured in 2019 and 2022. He noted that his maturity and consistency this season have prepared him to perform at his best.

“To be honest, I don’t want to focus on things like medals because this entire year has been about going out there and executing as best as I possibly can,” he said. “There’s no telling what it will take to win a medal this year, but I do believe that, with proper execution, I should win one. I’ve been there before and not done as well as I wanted, but this year there is a significantly different mindset, different approach, and I am a completely different individual if I’m being honest.”

Scott emphasised that his experiences across this season have given him the mental readiness needed for Tokyo.

“Mentally, I am ready, because having success throughout the year has definitely prepared me,” he explained.

“I’ve been in situations where I’ve led from the first jump and others where I’ve won from the last jump. I’ve experienced so much this year that I feel ready for anything the World Championships throws at me. Once I step on the runway healthy, there’s no telling what can happen. If I get everything right, the sky’s the limit.”

The World Championships will be held from September 13-21.
