World U-20 | Championships record for Hibbert to capture gold in men's triple jump
Jamaica's Jaydon Hibbert produced a championships record to win the men's triple jump at the World Under-20 Championships at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Cali, Colombia on Friday.
Hibbert jumped 17.27 metres on his first attempt for a clear victory. He did 16.82 metres on his second effort, which was the next best in the final, where he passed on his final four jumps.
Hibbert finished ahead of India's Selva P Thirumaran, who did 16.15 metres with Estonia's Viktor Morozov doing 16.13 for the bronze medal. Both marks were personal bests.
It was the fourth gold medal on the penultimate day for Jamaica as earlier Brianna Lyston won the women's 200 metres and Brandon Pottinger the men's high jump as the women's 4x100 metres relay also won.
Jamaica now have 12 medals overall with five gold, four silver and three bronze to sit behind the United States of America (USA) in the medal table. The USA have 13 medals, comprising of five gold, four silver and four bronze.
