Three policemen helped a St Thomas woman deliver her baby early Saturday morning.

The police report that the officers responded to an emergency 911 call from the woman, who was seeking help after going into labour at her home in Bull Bay.

According to the police, on arrival, the officers, Corporal A. Wellington, Constable S. Shaw and Constable O. Dawkins, quickly assessed the situation and determined that immediate medical assistance was required.

The police say that while arrangements were being made to transport the expectant mother to the Princess Margaret Hospital, the officers provided critical support, helping her remain calm and ensuring she was positioned safely and comfortably.

They say emergency procedures were followed to maintain a clean and safe environment, and continuous checks were carried out on both the mother and the baby.

The police say that through the officers’ coordinated and decisive actions, the baby was safely delivered before arrival at the hospital.

“Both the mother and her newborn were reported to be stable upon reaching the Princess Margaret Hospital, where medical staff assumed care,” the police said in a post on social media.

“The incident highlights the dedication and professionalism of the responding officers, demonstrating that the role of the police extends beyond law enforcement to include compassion, service and the preservation of life in critical moments.”
