Illegal cocaine found during audit of C-TOC storage facilities, high-level probe launched – JCF
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting that an audit of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) this week uncovered two illegal parcels of cocaine inside storage facilities at the division.
The JCF, in a release on Friday, said the audit of C-TOC’s storage facilities was triggered following the arrest and charge of Police Inspector Martin Walker, who is attached to C-TOC.
The police had reported that a quantity of cocaine was allegedly found in Walker’s private vehicle during an operation on January 8.
Walker, who is charged with conspiracy to export cocaine, as well as possession, dealing, and transportation of cocaine, is out on bail.
The JCF said Deputy Commissioner of Police Richard Stewart, head of the Crime and Security Portfolio, ordered the comprehensive audit of C-TOC’s storage facilities.
The force said the illicit drug was found in breach of established protocols.
It said detectives assigned to the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) were immediately contacted to commence an investigation following the discovery of the cocaine at C-TOC.
A high-level probe is under way.
The JCF said Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake has ordered the immediate removal of FNID from the oversight of C-TOC.
It said the High Command has also given its full support to the division as it carries out the investigations.
The audit and the investigation are ongoing.
