Would-be robber shot by licensed firearm holder in St Andrew

A would-be robber was shot by a licensed firearm holder along Grove Road in St Andrew on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m.

Reports are that the injured man attempted to steal a motorcycle and was shot in the process.

Further reports indicate that the motorcycle belongs to the firearm holder.

The badly injured man was subsequently assisted to hospital for treatment.

His condition has not yet been disclosed.

Police personnel remain at the scene as investigations continue.

The St Andrew Central Criminal Investigations Branch has taken over the probe into the incident.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force reported on Sunday that, as of January 17, there was a 10 per cent increase in robberies when compared to the similar period last year.

Up to that point, there were 23 incidents reported across the island.
