Overkill on Columbus critique

THE EDITOR, Sir:
With regard to Ahmed Reid's column 'Toppling Columbus statue', which was published in The Gleaner on Sunday, November 4, 2018, I didn't even know we had a statue of Columbus. But that quote about the Tainos is taken out of context.
The idea that Columbus just came and started murdering the Tainos is really an oversimplification of the time he lived (and it was the men who accompanied him who killed, not on Columbus' order).
