Boost police surveillance with drones
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I want to commend the acting commissioner of police and the good men and women of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for their sacrifice and dedication in executing a difficult job in perilous times.
I have noted the increased police presence in our public spaces.
I encourage the JCF to be resolute in the detection and apprehension of criminal suspects. A simple means test is a very effective detection tool that can invite further criminal investigations.
The JCF is at a critical juncture as it seeks better wages and working conditions, while Jamaica seeks better economic performance and output.
I want to see the effective use of drones, and drone technology to give our security forces' eyes where it's now blind.
Every front-line officer should have a ballistic vest, and must wear it while on duty in the public space.
As a country we cannot borrow more, to pay more for a police service that has little or no impact in curtailing corruption, crimes and murders.
Jamaica can do better, Jamaicans must do better.
