The mother of the two-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted, allegedly by her own uncle at their home in Negril, Westmoreland, wants retribution for the 29-year-old when he is caught.

The attacker is also accused of molesting a five-year-old cousin of the infant.

In a Gleaner interview at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, the mom, whose identity is being withheld to preserve the child’s privacy, said that the elusive relative had been spotted Tuesday morning in Negril but disappeared before they rushed to the location.

“Him need fi get punishment. A that mi want him fi get. Him fi get punishment fi what him do,” she stated.

“My little daughter, although she a two-year-old, she can talk very good and she very sensible, and my younger sister also sensible, and them talk say mi brother trouble dem, although him did a say a lie.”

The fleeing suspect is reportedly a popular disc jockey who is a party staple in Westmoreland.

The alleged assault has shocked the entire family.

The police joined forces with community members of Negril in a manhunt for the 29-year-old.

The mother of the five-year-old girl said she made the disturbing discovery last Thursday while she was washing her daughter’s underwear.

The suspect denied the allegations.

She said she followed through with her own investigations and later made a report to the police, which passed on to detectives from the Centre of Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.

Both children have been examined at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital.

The accused man was accosted and held by his older brother, who intended on handing him over to the police, but he escaped, jumping over a wall.

“The police are unable to say much about this incident, which is very fragile, and is now in the hands of investigators from CISOCA,” a policeman said.

“What I can do confirm is that the police are aware of the incident and also that the main suspect, who is related to both victims, is now on the run and is presently being sought by the police.”

Westmoreland Western Member of Parliament Moreland Wilson has deplored the alleged attack, saying it was evidence of society’s depravity.

“It’s heart-rendering to learn of such a tragic incident to occur in the constituency and I am calling on all well-thinking Jamaicans to share whatever information you have with the police so that they can expedite their investigation and search for the perpetrator,” Wilson said.

“I have been in communication with members of the family and will do whatever I can to support them in this difficult times.”
