The Ford Ranger XLT: A Modern Take on a Classic

The Ford Ranger, a name synonymous with rugged workhorses, has been a mainstay in the global pickup truck market for decades. Introduced in 1983, it has evolved significantly, adapting to the changing needs of both recreational and commercial users. For this reason, this has been one of my most highly recommended pickups for the last two years.

A Nod to the Past, A Look to the Future:

The Ranger has faced stiff competition throughout its history, notably from stalwarts like the Toyota Hilux and the Mitsubishi L200. While retaining its core identity as a capable and durable truck, the latest model showcases a modern design language that blends ruggedness with sophistication.

Exterior: A Blend of Form and Function:

The exterior of the XLT exudes a purposeful aura. The bold front grille, flanked by aggressive LED headlights, instantly commands attention. The sculpted hood, flowing character lines, and flared fenders contribute to an athletic stance. The rear features distinctive LED taillights and a thoughtfully designed cargo bed with integrated tie-down points and a convenient 12V outlet. The overall design strikes a balance between ruggedness and contemporary aesthetics.

Interior: Comfort and Convenience:

Using the side steps to access the interior, one is greeted by a well-appointed cabin. The centre console, featuring a user-friendly 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dominates the dashboard. This system boasts intuitive controls, seamless smartphone integration, and a crisp, high-resolution display. The audio system, equipped with a respectable six speakers, delivers a satisfying listening experience. The interior design emphasises both functionality and comfort, with durable materials and ergonomic seating. Cargo space is generous, and the rear seats fold up to further expand utility.

Driving Experience: Power and Refinement:

The heart of the XLT is the 2.0L Bi-Turbo Diesel engine, delivering an impressive 154kW of power and a substantial 500Nm of torque. This engine provides effortless acceleration and effortless towing capabilities, making it ideal for both work and play. The four-wheel-drive system, coupled with selectable driving modes, ensures confident handling on any terrains. The suspension, while firm, provides a comfortable ride on any surface.

The 2024 Ford Ranger XLT is a compelling offering in the competitive mid-size pickup truck segment. Its blend of rugged capability, modern design, and refined interior makes it a versatile companion for both work and leisure. While fuel consumption could be improved, the XLT excels in power delivery, handling, and overall driving experience.
