You are just an ‘instrument’
Each of us plays a note in the grand symphony of life. Sometimes our role brings joy, sometimes lessonsm yet each note has meaning in the larger design. We often believe we are the ones composing the tune, taking pride when it sounds beautiful and feeling guilty when it doesn’t.
How often do you say, “I made this happen,” or “It’s because of me”? It feels natural to take credit when things go right and feel burdened when someone faces pain because of us. In both cases — whether pride or guilt — we take the role of the “doer”.
Spirituality invites us to step beyond this illusion and see ourselves simply as mediums through which the Divine Composer creates His harmony. When we live with that awareness, both pride and burden gently dissolve.
I AM A MEDIUM
When we understand that we are merely instruments, a beautiful lightness enters our lives. Just as a musical instrument is played by the player, it is the Divine, the unseen Player, who plays different melodies — sometimes joyful, sometimes challenging — through us. If someone has to receive joy, you may be used to give that joy. If someone needs to learn a lesson through difficulty, you may be the one through whom that lesson comes. When this awareness settles in, you stop carrying the weight of pride for the good or guilt for the bad. You begin to live in harmony with the higher order, trusting that everything happens with purpose and precision.
ILLUSION OF CONTROLLING
We often believe that we can make others happy or sad, but this is a very deep misunderstanding. We cannot make anyone feel anything unless they choose that feeling for themselves. Every individual experiences what is meant for them, based on their own journey. Your only responsibility is to keep yourself at peace. Once you fulfil that responsibility, you naturally become a clearer channel for the divine energy to flow through. Trying to control outcomes or emotions of others only leads to confusion and unnecessary burden.
INSTRUMENT-CONSCIOUSNESS
When we shift from being “doer-conscious” to “instrument-conscious,” life becomes much easier. We begin to act with humility and clarity, not ego or guilt. We no longer judge ourselves or others for what unfolds. We simply play our part sincerely and allow the Divine to compose the song. In this awareness, nothing unjust or unfair happens through you. The burden of right and wrong, success and failure, dissolves. You simply remain a clean medium – peaceful, detached, yet deeply connected.
Let us, then, live each moment with the awareness: “I am a medium of the Divine.” I am a hero of my story but just an instrument in others’ stories.
