Commending mentorship proposal for boys

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The article by Archbishop Emeritus Richard Reece ('Mentor boys as part of crime fight', Gleaner, January 11, 2018) was very on point with the state of many of our young boys, men and crime.

Several studies have been done, and Archbishop Reece pointed to the work of Dr Herbert Gayle. There is also the research by Dr Patricia Anderson, both pointing to the "trajectory or making of shottas", as Archbishop Reece wrote. Brutal childhoods ignite these reactions. Many of our girls suffer brutal childhoods, also from careless parenting.

The Government alone can't solve this. Education is usually the cure, but until that happens, we need to save the poor children.
