"If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place." Author Nora Roberts

To move forward there are things that we have to sometimes give up, things that we might have to invest in and others that we need to keep. In our efforts of being a better version of ourselves for the future, we sometimes focus on resolutions without detailing or considering what may already work for us. So here is Buy. Toss. Keep. - Self-care version as a guide to how to be a better you.

Buy into yourself: We are always so focused on what we should change that we do not give ourselves enough credit to the person we are as of today. Understand that you are enough and that you are a good person. Believe that you are enough.

Buy into personal time: The world has become so fast-paced that we do not realise until we have come down with the flu or exhaustion that we do not take time for ourselves. Even if it is an hour per day locked in the bathroom to just shut out the sound. Ensure that you are taking care of your mental health. If you are overwhelmed, take a breath. If you have a family, they need you and you need to take a break and be healthy so that you can be there for them. If you are overwhelmed by your job, remember you will be replaced when or if you die.

Toss the toxic relationship: This is every relationship that makes you feel less than you are. Those friends who are always trying to fix you. The people who are never there to give a word of encouragement, but they are always there to be negative. The friends who every time you talk to them, you feel so exhausted and wasted. Sometimes you become the people you hang out with and if the energy is never positive, you might start becoming the same person that people need to let go of.

Toss procrastination: Many times we have goals and ideas and put them off for the next day. I will start eating healthy tomorrow. I am not financially ready to start my business. I will make time tomorrow to figure out what it is I want to do. No, the only time promised is now. Therefore, you make the plan now. You want to start a business, start small or even do an internship to push you towards that goal. Wanting to start a healthier lifestyle does not put a resolution on it, just take steps to do better now at this moment. You do not need a gym membership, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Sometimes baby steps get you further than a big opportunity. The opportunity does not always come the way you expect and you might miss it.

Keep a journal: Write down your goals and make plans for your dreams. Hold yourself accountable for writing it all down.

Keep your support system: do not forget the ones that have been there for you. You do get busy and overwhelmed but keeping your connections and your friendships alive will keep you young. No man is an island.

Keep positive: With every year comes to its new challenges and stresses. You have to believe that you will make it and believe that you can be successful irrespective of everything that you are going through. Each year has challenges, 2018 will be no different, so believe that you will be able to make it despite anything that comes your way.
